Bridges & Crowns

Dr. Charles Martin can help you decide on the exact dental work that you need

Dr. Charles Martin of Richmond Smile Center has spent 30 years gaining experience and training in advanced cosmetic and restorative dentistry so that he can give you that beautiful smile that you’ve always wanted. Working with the highest-quality materials, he can make sure that any restorative work that you need results in a beautiful, healthy smile.

Porcelain crowns can restore your teeth to full function and beauty

Dental crowns used to be made of metal. Then metal and plastic versions were developed. But the plastic wore out. Then they were made of metal and porcelain. But the metal could show.

Today there are porcelain and metal crowns where the metal doesn’t show at all. Richmond Smile Center also offers complete porcelain crowns made of high strength ceramics. Dr. Martin will examine your mouth and choose the right crown from a whole range of these ceramics, recommending the right crown for you.  And like all of Dr. Martin’s restoration work, his crowns look just like natural teeth.

A dental bridge is a device used to fill the space where a tooth has fallen out or been removed. Gaps between teeth can cause chewing problems. If even one tooth is missing, other teeth may slowly shift out of place. This changes the way your teeth fit together. A poor bite may make your jaw sore. Your teeth may become harder to clean which can lead to tooth decay and gum disease.

It is important to fill gaps between teeth and a bridge is one way to accomplish that. A typical bridge consists of a filler tooth that is attached to two surrounding crowns. Once complete, this bridge structure is bonded into the mouth.

Missing teeth can be replaced with bridges, dentures or dental implants. Each option has its pros and cons, depending on the health of your teeth and your budget.

With advanced training and extensive experience in restorative and advanced dentistry, Dr. Martin will evaluate your teeth and gums and help you choose the best option for you.

Bridges, Dentures or Implants?

For some patients, fixed bridges or removable dentures are not the perfect solution to missing teeth and often bring with them a number of other problems.

Fixed bridges often require the cutting down of adjacent healthy teeth, and removable dentures may lead to bone loss in the area where the tooth or teeth are missing. Recurrent decay, periodontal (gum) disease and other factors often doom fixed bridgework to early failure. For these reasons, fixed bridges and removable dentures usually need to be replaced every seven to 15 years, compared to an up to 25-year life span for dental implants.

Dr. Martin has extensive advanced training in dental implants.  He has done more than 1000 dental implants, and has been doing the entire procedure himself since 2002.  For more information about dental implants, click here.

Come in for a complimentary restorative consultation and let Dr. Martin examine your mouth and determine if a bridge, denture or dental implant is the right option for you.
