The Importance of Twice Annual Check-ups (Even When You Have No Dental Problems)

by staff on March 15, 2007

Children and adults should schedule twice annual checkups and cleanings even if no dental problems are present.  Many dental patients feel there is no need to visit their dentist unless they are experiencing pain.  However, many dental issues develop very slowly and present no outward signs or indications at the onset.  Visiting your dentist every six months for a cleaning and checkup helps to keep your gums and teeth healthy and allows the dentist to detect any early indications of gum disease, cavities or other dental ailments.

Early detection and timely treatment of problems can prevent more severe dental problems from developing.  At your twice annual checkup, the dentist will check your teeth for cracks, decay and gums for any signs of potential problems.

Twice annual dental cleanings and checkups offer the opportunity for you and your dentist to discuss any dental problems or discomfort, and the dentist can provide advice regarding any treatments that may be called for or extra oral hygiene steps you may take to ward off or prevent further dental problems.

For good dental health, it is important to visit your dentist every six months for a cleaning and checkup.
